About the photo: Devil’s Sinkhole in Edwards County, Texas taken by Geary Schindel and Benjy Von Cramon in 2017. The photo features Tom Rogers ascending the 145-foot pit. We were in the cave with permission from the owner to perform some water studies. The photo took 2nd place in the National Speleological Society’s (NSS) Photo Salon at the 2023 NSS Convention and the pit was also featured by the BBC and registered millions of views. Tom Rogers was a long-term and very active member of the Bexar Grotto who passed away a few years ago from an unexpected short-term illness.
Bexar Grotto is a diverse group of people passionate about cave exploration, conservation, preservation, and recreation.
