Bexar Grotto Members We’ve Lost
Ross Anthony Webb
January 16, 2009 – November 9, 2024
“Little” Ross was a cherished member of our Grotto who was always ready for adventure. His presence brought joy to everyone around him with an incredible sense of humor and a love for bad puns. Ross had a heart of gold and was an avid and dependable volunteer at events like the Hydro~Geo Workshop.
We all love and miss him dearly and are committed to honoring him and his family.
Tom Rogers
Tom, or “TFR” was a Bexar Grotto caver from 2009 – June 22, 2022.
Tom was notoriously known for caving in shorts, and his nickname of TFR (Tom ‘F*ckin’ Rogers) was bestowed on him by Tom Florer to differentiate him. Tom loved his nickname so much that he had TFR t-shirts printed up! He was a gifted, fearless, popular caver and a loyal friend to many. We lost Tom in June 2022 to an unexpected, rapid illness.
Chuck Stuehm
Raymond “Chuck” Stuehm, died January 31, 1980.
Chuck Stuehm (pronounced “Steam”) was a member of the San Antonio Grotto, and was especially good at welcoming, working with, and encouraging new cavers.
Chuck’s memory is honored in the Chuck Stehm Award. The award is for new and exceptional cavers, and is awarded each year to one new caver in each Texas Grotto. The only requirement for the award is that the person has been caving two years or less and shows a high level of enthusiasm for caving. Often the grotto will also honor the recipient at the next local grotto meeting after TCR. Along with the award, each recipient receives a one-year membership to the Texas Speleological Society.
Read about Chuck in excerpts from the April 1980 issue of the Texas Caver, re-printed in The Texas Caver in 2013.
